The Independence Day weekend in 2017 was an exceptionally
long weekend, and I was looking for options to take a road trip with my
friends. I didn't want to waste this precious time sitting at home doing
nothing. Though we did not take much time to decide upon the destination, we
did argue about the mode of travel. I wanted to go by car, and some of my
friends were fine with going on a train or a bus. Nevertheless, no one wanted
to take out the car because of various complications of sharing and contributing
to expenses. We finally settled down on taking a Car Rental in Bangalore without Driver, which turned out to be an
excellent idea altogether.
To take a road trip to Belur, we took a Tata Safari on rent,
and I must say it was thrilling driving it. Belur is located only 220
kilometers from Bangalore, which takes almost four hours to cover. The
Chennakesava Temple is the main attraction of the district along with several
other historical attractions. Although my friends and I are not very fond of
visiting temples, it is an excellent way to spend time. Talking about the
history of various places, we can have a healthy discussion about things and
venues.
An interesting fact that we got to know about Chennakesava
Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is that the temple was constructed
in a vast span of 103 years. Several scenes from Upanishads, Mahabharata, and
Ramayana are depicted on the walls of the temple. Everything on the walls and
the campus of the temple was so charming that we could not help but appreciate
the marvel of the architects of that time. The step well, Pushkarni, for
example, is also a place where we sat for a long time and chatted with each
other. The use of ivory and sandalwood in the entire temple left us spellbound.
India is replete with architectural wonders, but we hardly
care to visit them, forget to appreciate them. After visiting just the
Chennakesava Temple, I realized that I needed to visit many more such places
and know more about them. And if I have the company of friends to those
locations, nothing like it to make the trips even more enjoyable.
